Firstserv takes its responsibilities towards the environment seriously, and we are committed to reducing our carbon footprint. We are pursuing green hosting policies, which in turn helps our customers to be greener themselves.

Firstserv's Green Hosting has several components, including energy reduction, renewable energy sources, carbon offsets and recycling.

Webhosting is an energy intensive process, but we are working to reduce the amount of electricity we use through a number of initiatives. These include purchasing energy-efficient hardware, virtualising to reduce the number of servers required and efficient use of resources.

We use renewable electricity sources in our data centres where available. For the rest, and for our general office emissions, we partner with the World Land Trust to offset the carbon produced through the Carbon Balanced programme. In addition the office has both recycling and a cycle-to-work scheme in place.

The World Land Trust is an international charity based in the UK that works with local partners to buy and protect threatened habitats which are vital to the survival of threatened species. This not only stores carbon, but also preserves biodiversity. By safeguarding habitats such as tropical forests WLT projects help protect the ecosystem services on which we all depend.
