Firstserv's CEO Gordon Kenneway climbed Mount Kilimanjaro while raising money for the Royal Brompton Hospital.
The gruelling 72km trek took Gordon and his wife Teri five days, and was part of their recent honeymoon in Tanzania. Their climb raised over £1000 for the Royal Brompton Hospital, which specialises in heart and lung surgery for children. "We are delighted to have managed to hit our target," says Gordon, "and very thankful to the generosity of everyone who contributed."
Gordon and Teri took the five day Marangu route. They reached the summit at about 6am on the fourth day (3rd January 2012) after walking uphill for 35km. After a well earned rest they walked 15km back down the mountain on the same day, and then covered the last 20km on the fifth day.
"All in all it was a fantastic trip with amazing wildlife and scenery," comments Gordon, "I highly recommend it. But next time I'll bring some cans of Coke as they are $5 a can on the mountain!"
There is still time to sponsor Gordon and Teri, please visit their JustGiving page.
